Waldorf For The Dying...
As I venture further into the world of Waldorf education with my toddler, I am lulled into a sense of well-being and joy surrounded by so much beauty, nature and innocence.  Waldorf education focuses on the child’s development into a well-rounded person addressing the human being’s three-fold...
One Week Plastic Challenge...
I decided to take Beth’s challenge over at FakePlasticFish and tally my family’s disposable plastic trash for one week, starting friday morning 5/15 and ending at midnight 5/21. I was curious to see if having a toddler increased my plastic consumption in any significant amount. Turns out,...
Kids Less Plastic...
When Beth at FakePlasticFish asked for more bloggers to write about plastic, I thought, what could I possibly have to say that she hasn’t said already? She’s the plastic-free goddess! Then my toddler clamored and clawed his way on to my lap to see what I was doing on the computer and I realized...
Vegetable Birthday Cake...
My mom’s birthday was on Sunday and I decided to make her favorite cake – a zucchini cake with cream cheese frosting. It didn’t hurt that it is one of my favorites too and I didn’t feel so guilty letting my almost 2 year old indulge a little. It had vegetables in it! Ingredients...
Toxic Paws?...
When we think of going green we tend to think about our personal health and the health of our environment.  Did you ever stop to think about your pet’s health?  Those chemical cleaners you use to wash your floor, the pesticides and chemical lawn fertilizers you spray in your yard and the conventional...
Woman’s Best Friend...
Yesterday we said goodbye to one of our family members.  It was a sad, sad day. Diego became my dog through marriage.  I had dogs as a child, but not one I was responsible for. I have two cats. They are affectionate and easy.  Getting a stepdog seemed like a challenge at first. He was a 75 pound,...
Maslow And Trash...
If the Great Garbage Patch is estimated to be at least twice the size of Texas and upwards to 15 million km (roughly the size of United States and India combined), then it makes me wonder how much land is being used in the US for trash in the landfills?  The garbage in the North Pacific Gyre is estimated...
Homemade Yogurt – Yum...
So, I made homemade yogurt last week and it turned out so good.  It was very easy – just a little time consuming.  I used my mom’s yogurt maker and my toddler helped.  (If eating the mango that was intended for the yogurt counts as help.)  Next time I will get a cooking thermometer....
Breast Is Best In Eight States...
I find it very interesting that according to Peggy O’Mara, editor and publisher of my favorite magazine, Mothering, only eight states met the Healthy People 2010 goals that were set forth for this initiative.   Her article in the new May/June 2009 issue states that the goal of this initiative...
When Is Mocha Green?...
When it’s organic, fair trade coffee!  Organic coffee is grown without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.  This is better for us, the earth and for the farmers.  Most pesticide residue is burned off during the roasting process, but there are trace amounts present.  The larger...
